In my quest to continuously offer my patients safe, effective treatments, I’m proud to announce the latest addition to my treatment list. Nanofat is a new type of regenerative treatment that uses stem cells from the patient’s own body to revitalise skin and combat the ageing process. I travelled to Milan for personalised one to one training Dr Mario Goisis, a world leading aesthetic doctor and surgeon.
So what is Nanofat?
The concept of using a patient’s own cells to replace, repair or regenerate ageing or injured tissues, particularly stem cells and growth factors, is not completely new. I was a pioneer of this type of regenerative medicine using PRP (platelet rich plasma) to develop my patented Dracula PRP Therapy. This approach isolates growth factors from blood that is then re-injected into the face, décolleté, scalp or injury site in order to heal and regenerate tissues.
Nanofat take this theory of regeneration further, as it contains stem cells collected directly from human fat. These cells are more stable than other cells, and have great potential for use in anti ageing treatments, as identified by researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. My use of Nanofat stem cells builds on PRP techniques.
What does the treatment involve?
A patient’s stem cells are obtained from fat removed via a minimal liposuction from an area where there is excess, or unnecessary fat – for instance the buttocks. This fat is then emulsified, and re-injected into the areas that we want to rejuvenate. Nanofat softens and corrects wrinkles, treats skin pigmentation (for example on the face or cleavage), fills and treats tear troughs, erases dark circles, hides scars and rejuvenates the hands. There’s some interesting research published in The Aesthetic Surgery Journal in January 2018.
As with PRP, this is an autologous treatment, meaning the injected substance is entirely derived from your own body, with no synthetic or animal derived products. This means you cannot be allergic to the treatment.
Nanofat regenerates, rather than just rejuvenates the treated area. This means that the treatment works with your body, naturally integrating with your tissues without creating any inflammation – plus the results will last much longer. Through the ageing process there is a natural reduction in the skin quality. This is because as the amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid lessens, plus the bone structure shrinks, leaving looser skin over a smaller frame. Nanofat works to regenerate the skin, making is plumper, more elastic, more even in skin tone and stronger.
As well as an improvement in elastin and collagen, hair growth also improves on treated scalps. This makes my Nanofat Stem Cell Rejuvenation treatment a highly effective regenerative aesthetic treatment. Dark circles under eyes are eradicated as the thin layer of fat injected into the area thickens the skin, making it less transparent.
How long does treatment take?
Treatment takes around under one hour and patients may experience some bruising around the liposuction site, and some may experience some minimal bruising at area of treatment.
When will I see results?
Results are two-fold. Immediately after treatment there will be a noticeable plumpness to the skin, however true results can take up to eight months to appear, as the stem cells need time to differentiate, stimulate and renew the skin.
As there is no reduction in the quality of nanofat as the patient ages, it’s an ideal treatment even for older patients. As usual when introducing a new treatment, I’ve tried it myself. Photos to come soon, but the results are impressive, even though I only had my treatment four days ago.
I am excited to now be able to offer this cutting edge, safe, effective treatment at my London clinic. If you would like to know if this treatment is suitable for you, please get in touch.
